Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas beats Chinese Taipei in the quaterfinals round of 2011 FIBA Asia Championship held at Wuhan, China on friday September 23, 2011.
At first half, Chinese Taipei took a 23-19 lead over Philippines as they kept on stretching their lead on 6 minutes of the 2nd quarter until Philippines' Coach Rajko Toroman called a timed out.
The change of their strategy worked and it took 9 consecutive points from Philippines to tied the game to 40-40. In the end of 1st half Philippines leads Chinese Taipei 45-42.
During second half, superb defense kept the Philippines away from persistent Chinese Taipei. In the closing minutes of the game, Chinese Taipei got close by 7 points but time is ticking faster for them and the Gilas kept on drilling their free throws.
The Philippine team grabbed its 5th win 95-78 and goes into the final four. They will advance to a do-or-die encounter in the semis against Jordan on Saturday, September 24, 2011 15:30 (GMT+8) Wuhan, China.
