This is to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal . The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) requested Malacanang to declare the holiday on June 20, 2011 (monday) instead of June 19, 2011 (sunday) to give opportunity to all Filipinos to commemorate Rizal's patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country, rekindle their admiration and respect for him, and to celebrate this milestone with appropriate ceremonies. source: Official Gazette

Noynoy Aquino ), "there is no more holiday economics meaning, dates of the holidays are not anymore moved to the nearest Monday or Friday." The upcoming Labor day , which happens to fall on a Sunday this year will not be observed on its nearest monday. Since the holiday will fall on Sunday, employees won't receive additional payment except when they are required to work on that day. Also, the labor groups have no choice but to celebrate this on sunday because on May 2 is a regular working day.
