Anti-Planking Act of 2011 now trending on Twitter Philippines
Hot topic now on twitter within the Philippines is the "Anti-Planking Act of 2011", a law that was proposed by Quezon City Representative Winston Castelo which aims to prohibit and penalize the act of doing this fad during protest or rallies to gained public attention or to immobilized the traffic.
Youth groups coming from the student sector criticized Castelo's proposed anti-planking bill, calling the proposal "ridiculous and anti-democratic".
Planking which originated in North East England, is an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location (source: Wikipedia).
This fad became famous when some students that joined the last Monday transport strike wherein they planked along the highway to obstruct the traffic.
According to Cong. Castelo, he was worried after seeing a "planking" protest done by League of Filipino Students members wherein protesters lay face down in the middle of España Avenue and Welcome Rotonda to denounce skyrocketing fuel prices. The incident caused traffic on the major thoroughfare as students and irked many motorists.
